WHO WE ARE Alumni Support

Quitting substances is the first step toward complete recovery.
But relapse happens, and it can be discouraging –
that’s why we created our alumni support program.

A BEACON OF HOPE

Recovery is a journey. It’s a lifelong process. It’s not a quick thing or a one-off event. It’s a path best walked with others who understand what you’ve been through and what you’re going through now. Our alumni support creates a community of like-minded individuals, ready to help you as you build a life in recovery.

ALUMNI SUPPORT AT BEACON HOUSE

Our alumni program provides you with access to events, group meetings, family therapy, and weekly sessions where you can connect with other people in recovery. This weekly contact helps keep you on track if you’re new in recovery, and it can make a big difference. You talk about how your week went, discuss any difficulties you faced, and get input on things you can do to support or enhance your aftercare routine. As a member of our alumni community, you’re also welcome to join our weekend experiential outings – and if you keep showing up to our events, we’ll throw you a sober birthday party.

BENEFITS OF ALUMNI SUPPORT

The one benefit of alumni support that’s most important is relapse prevention.

Research shows that when you enter recovery, you have a better chance of sustained sobriety when you restructure your social identity. You change from a person who uses alcohol or drugs to a person who doesn’t. It’s typically not until you make that change that you realize how many of your friends and acquaintances became friends and acquaintances through drinking and using drugs. Now that you don’t do those things, you need a new, sober social network.

Alumni support programs also include an element of fun. Events and access to experiential therapy remind you how you can live a full, engaging, and exciting life without alcohol or drugs. Whether it’s horseback riding, surfing, or simply walking along the beach, there is plenty you can do and enjoy beyond addiction.

We encourage everyone who completes a treatment program at Beacon House to join our alumni program. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with recovery peers. You get to share your experiences and struggles with people who have walked a mile – and maybe much more – in your shoes. We’re a non-judgmental, accepting and genuinely loving community – and we can’t wait to welcome you.
