The
Process
At Beacon House participants learn through education the causes and
results of
addictive behaviors; the means to establish healthy boundaries;
effective communication
techniques; the value of living a 12-step program and of family
re-bonding. In process groups, facilitated by our clinical staff,
participants explore their often hidden or repressed emotions; learn
the importance of risk taking, sharing feelings and building trust
within a safe group. |
Education
Entering the Beacon House is just the beginning of a happier,
healthy lifestyle. Learning about the disease concept of addiction
is a major component of recovery. Beacon House provides
comprehensive education on subjects ranging from the related health
aspects of chemical dependency, boundary setting, anger management,
coping skills, relapse prevention and cognitive behavioral tools to
help build a strong foundation in recovery. These topics, as well as
co-addiction and communication skills are discussed in both the
recovery group setting and in the Family and Friends Support
Program. |
Therapy Groups / Individual Counseling
Group Therapy, with a recovery-based peer group is an important part
of the treatment process at the Beacon House. Each day, our clients
meet with their peer group to explore feelings associated with their
disease, begin the emotional healing process and make meaningful
connections with others.
All Group Therapy sessions are led by our
clinical staff and professionals in the community and support the
treatment goals of recovery. Clients are assigned an individual
counselor upon intake and meet with their counselor weekly to review
program progress and address any blocks to recovery. Our clients are
also evaluated by our Clinical Psychologist and have the
opportunity
for continued support with him. Beacon House is, in part, a Social
Model Program and as such, clients have the freedom to venture out
into our community and experience some clean and sober independence.
Along with that independence, clients can encounter some stressors,
return to a safe environment and process their feelings with the
support of their counselors and peers. |
12 Steps
Participants are required to attend a 12 Step sponsored meeting each
day and must secure a Sponsor (temporary or otherwise). Together
with their Counselor, each client will work through the first three
of the 12 Steps and create a Relapse Prevention Plan to address
continued recovery after their stay at the Beacon House. Getting
sober is one component of our treatment program, a 12-step recovery
program reinforces recovery skills while keeping our clients
connected to a community of individuals with the common goal of
recovery. |
Family
& Supporters
Family participation is a critical part of recovery. The Family &
Supporters Program at Beacon House includes education, therapy, and
support for family and friends who have loved ones dependent on
alcohol or other drugs. With several different components, this
program is designed to help families understand the disease, begin
healing themselves and learn about their own recovery process.
Through lectures, small groups, videos, and interaction with the
client, family members will learn how to recognize and share
feelings and concerns, and support loved ones in recovery. |
