For
many years it has been recognized and documented that addiction is a
primary disease which affects every part of an individual’s life:
physical, mental/emotional, social and spiritual, It is also well
known that this disease affects all those close to the
alcoholic/addict, including family and close friends. In fact, many
refer to this as the family disease or illness.
In accordance with these views, Beacon House has developed the
Friends and Family Program to reach out to the needs of the family
members. The program includes family counseling and group
educational sessions. In addition to weekly family sessions (every
Saturday), Beacon House presents a collection of meetings and
workshops to help loved ones navigate their own road to recovery.

Family Intensive
Saturday
Family
Intensive Saturday occurs once per 28 day cycle and it is an
extremely important part of the recovery process for the resident,
family and supportive friend. At the Family Intensive, supporters
learn about the nature of addiction and discover ways to communicate
and to express feelings in a safe and healing environment. Through
facilitated communication exercises, residents and family members
are able to safely share their anger, fears, pain and hope. Those
who have participated in the past tell us that they have learned a
great deal about how the disease of addiction has affected their
lives.
Al-Anon 101
Al-Anon 101 meets once a month on the Friday evening prior to our
Family Intensive Saturday. This meeting id designed to introduce
families and supporters to Al-Anon. Beacon House counselors and
Al-Anon representatives will provide helpful information for those
interested in gaining more tools for their own happy and healthy
life as their loved one begins their recovery at Beacon House.
Family Support Group
The Family Support Group meets weekly in the Carriage House. It is
offered to both those who have a loved one at the Beacon House and
those who don’t. Friends and family members can sort out the
emotions that they are experiencing and begin the healing process
within a supportive group of people going through the same things. |

We also recommend that family and friends look into Al-Anon or Al-Ateen
for additional support.
